Drug labs can be found in houses, apartments, motel rooms, sheds, trailers and motor vehicles, which have been referred to as rolling meth labs.

Drug Lab Cleaning Specialists
A Drug & Meth lab environment is highly toxic & can be very unpredictable. The volatile compounds used in production can pose a risk of fire or explosion. It’s extremely dangerous to enter a meth lab environment. Symptoms from exposure can range from coughing, nausea and dizziness, to chemical burns and even death. Routes of exposure from meth lab chemicals occur through inhalation, absorption or through direct skin contact and ingestion. In addition to the chemical dangers involved in Meth lab cleanup, there are also risks from potential traps set up to protect the inventory. Extreme caution is needed entering and cleaning a known Meth lab. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not officially regulate the cleanup of meth labs but does provide Meth Lab Cleanup Guidelines for reference. Every state has an independent procedural and clearance mandate for re-occupancy.
The highly skilled technicians of ITS take every precaution to insure the safety of the cleanup crew & the surrounding area when dealing with Meth labs. One of the first steps is securing the property. No one should enter the affected area without proper PPE and knowledge of the risks. Once inside, the area is ventilated to reduce the potential of airborne toxin exposure. All surfaces must be washed down several times and, if necessary, an encapsulation process should be used. Any property that has been exposed to Meth contamination must be thoroughly cleaned. Items that are heavily contaminated should be promptly removed & disposed of. When possible, an industrial hygienist specializing in Meth lab testing should take samples before & after the remediation process.
If there is an HVAC system, a contractor specializing in the cleanup of Meth in ducts should be used in order to insure proper cleaning and reduce the risk of re-contamination. A septic contractor should also be consulted and testing by a hygienist should be performed.
Drug lab cleanup typically does not involve additional hazardous chemicals. Similar to Meth, the cleanup process must be extremely thorough. All areas must be vacuumed using a HEPA filtration system. All surfaces must be disinfected and washed several times. Any contents, especially soft goods, should be removed & property disposed of.
